Guest Writer: My Mom

As soon as I read my mom's endearing comment to this post, I just had to repost it.

The 41 year “date”
On June 2, 1973 my husband, Curtis Gilbert, Sr., took my hand and asked me out on a “date”. During that “date” we planned our future, traveled, worked, loved, laughed, danced, cried, argued, honored, shopped, encouraged, complained, disagreed, prayed, worshiped, served, celebrated, shared, dined, gave, entertained, promised, respected, nurtured, courted, and had two beautiful babies. Most importantly, we learned the significance of having Jesus at the center of our lives.

On July 15, 2014, after 41 years of marriage, he brought me home from that “date”. He told me good night in the most caring and loving way possible as he entered the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I miss him deeply, but know that I will see him again.

The Saddest Day of My Life

July 15, 2014 will forever be etched in my memory because it is the day that follows the dash on my father's gravestone. Two in a half weeks ago, my dad, at the age of 64, went to be with his Savior suddenly following a heart attack.  My heart has a hole in it that is now filled with deep sadness.

I had the privilege to give a reflection at my dad's funeral.  Here's what I said -

As I pondered coming before you to give a reflection about my dear father, I thought I was going to talk about his love for people and how he brought so much life, joy, and laughter to every group that he was with.  But you probably already knew that.

Next, I thought I was going to talk about his love for the elderly who were homebound and how he would joyfully visit them, take communion, and speak God’s Word to them. But you probably already knew that.

Likewise, I thought I was going to talk about his love for gathering with God’s people and how he would delight in being present whenever the doors of the church were open and how he served the church diligently.  But you probably already knew that.

Then, I thought I was going to talk about his love for caring for his family and how he sacrificially served us in any way that he saw a need. How he countlessly drove 10 hrs to visit my family and joyfully took my disabled son on walks around our neighborhood. But you probably already knew that as well.

So, what should I say about a godly man, loving husband, caring father, and faithful friend? Nothing other than that my dad was born a sinner like all of us but he put his trust in Jesus & at that point God began a good work in him and saw it to completion.  The morning after I got the news that my dad had passed and was now with Jesus, I read Psalm 138.
The Psalmist begins by giving thanks to the Lord for his steadfast love and faithfulness. And it ends by saying, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.”  As tears flowed down my face that morning, I gave thanks to the Lord for his steadfast love and faithfulness towards my family through my dad’s life.  And I was overcome with peace and assurance that the Lord fulfilled his purpose for my dad.  On the evening of Tuesday, July 15, I believe that my dad was given the most glorious welcome that he’s ever received as His Savior said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

Please pray for my family especially for my mother who lost her beloved husband of 41 years.

The Two Things We ♥ About Delaware

You may not hear much about the second smallest state.  However, Delaware, the 1st state to adopt the U.S. Constitution, reminds us of two of our favorite things - Ladybugs and Uncle Curt!

Interesting Fact: The ladybug was adopted as the official state bug of Delaware in 1974 due to the efforts of a 2nd grade teacher and her class.  More info here.

Delaware Unit
Carysse completed a Ladybug life cycle and a parts of a ladybug worksheet.

I found a ladybug mat printable for her to practice addition facts.

She drew this ladybug on the iPad.

She got this ladybug game for her birthday a couple of years ago.
We had lots of fun playing it!

The ladybug puppet that Kalia is holding is a super easy craft that I found here.
Books Read - Welcome to the USA: DelawareWatch It Grow Ladybug, Spotted Beetles: Ladybugs in Your Backyard, and a family favorite - Ten Little Ladybugs.

My only sibling, Curtis Eugene Gilbert, was born in Delaware while my parents were stationed at Dover Air Force Base.  He has always been dear to my heart (other than when we fought as kids:-).  I would like to celebrate him today on his 36th Birthday!

In January, I posted a video of his testimony.
Since then, the Lord has called him to be the Lead Pastor at The Journey Church.
Shortly after he started as pastor, they did a full length version of his testimony.

Dear Curt, I thank God for the day you were born.  But most of all, I praise Him for your rebirth into the body of Christ!  May the Lord continue to do a mighty work in your life!  I Love You!

My Brother's Testimony!

My brother is a youth pastor & one of his students did this video presentation as a school project.  What a GREAT way to share the gospel in a public school!

December Highlights

The 1st Big Snow of Winter was on Dec. 9!

We got 9.5 inches in one day!!!

We celebrated Christmas with our favorite Minnesota Family!
Our families met over 5 years ago because of these two -
Christian & Krista.
Disability has a way of connecting us to precious people.  You heard of the saying "Home away from home".  Well, this is our "Family away from family."  We thank the Lord often for this family being in our lives.

Maybe we'll submit this if there's ever a Cutest Scrooge Face contest.J

A Sweet Visit

My bro, sis-in-love, & adorable nephew came to visit us at the end of last month.  The wives held down the fort while our husbands attended the DG conference.  You would think that 2 moms can easily care for 5 kids; but they wore us out!  We were so blessed that our hubbies gave us a Girls Day Away after the conference was over.  Our time out ended with a delicious dessert from one of my favorite bakeries which made our crazy 3 days worth it!

I ♥ my Auntie!

Carysse couldn't stop lovin' on Caden.

July Highlight: A Sweet Month but A Sad Day

My hubby went back to work today after taking a month off since Baby Caleb’s birth.  Yes, we had the blessed privilege of having him home for 30 days!!!  He wanted to take this time to have undivided time loving & serving our family.  Our pastor asked him to preach in the current series but Kempton declined so that he could focus on serving us.  For those of you who know my hubby you know that this was a HUGE sacrifice because he has been given a great preaching gift & loves to use that gift for the advancement of the Kingdom.  So, his decision really blessed my heart.

10 things I’ll miss the most from this past month
1) K. making our delicious breakfast
2) Reading the Word together after breakfast
3) K. sharing the kids' morning routine with me
4) Our fun family field trips 2-3 times a week
5) Having lunch together everyday
6) K. watching all 4 of the kids so I could get a daily nap or get out for a mommy break
7) Eating dinner early every night (not having to wait after rush hour traffic)
8) Our family Dairy Queen dessert runs
9) Daddy's quality time with each of the kids even when the baby wanted to have his time in the middle of the night J
10) How Kempton's wonderful leadership & presence has given us a great start as we transitioned into a family of 6!

Babe, we’ll never know fully all the sweet fruit that reaped from your time with us.  But by God’s grace, your wife will always be grateful for your joyful sacrifice.  Through you, I’ve seen God’s goodness, faithfulness, & provision towards our family.  We are so sad that you have to return to workL. However, I hope that I will remember that the same God who kept us these past 30 days will continue to show Himself strong & cover us with His favor & grace as we watch the clock until you get home go through our daily routine without you.  You’ll be missed but we are so thankful that you have a jobJ!

June Highlight: I Grew Another Heart!

When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I was concerned about how I was going to equally love both of my children.  My precious 1st born was so dear to me that I couldn't imagine loving another child as much as him.  At that time, a dear friend told me that each child you have you just grow another heart. She was so right!  At the moment of each of my children's births, I love them so completely.  I am now an abundantly blessed mama with 4 hearts!♥♥♥♥

My sweet Baby Caleb is a "part-time" easy, calm baby.  He likes to sleep through the day & be up through the night just like he did in the womb.  So, I'm going to do some serious schedule adjusting once he gets a little older.  In spite of that, it's been a good 1st week. We are so blessed to be a family of 6!  Here are some snapshots of our week.

Sweet kisses from daddy as we leave the hospital

The girls are so excited to have little brother home

Christian's probably thinking, "I can't believe I finally have a brother!"J

January Highlights

Now that we’re half way through February, I think it’s a good idea to share our January highlights.  I know my blog is more like a “cob”website.  My days are so full of helping my hubby, mothering, homeschooling, caring for our home, attending Bible Study, ministry, & the list goes on & on.  So, blogging is definitely not at the top of my list.  However, I realize with that track record I may not have a lot of visitors, but I know I can always count on my mom.J

        1.  Speaking of mom, she lovingly came to help while KT was away with the pastors.  Carysse & Grandma did lots of fun activities together while Big brother was at school & Baby sister was napping.  She relished that undivided grandma time!   Here are some precious pics from her visit.

Making brownies

Playing Candy Land

Making a paper chain

Mom, you're definitely Queen to us!

        2.   The cool pic that my hubby took while at the Pastors’ Week Away.

 3.  Carysse was invited to another Princess party.  It was so fun seeing all the little princesses together.  Here’s a pic of her & the Birthday Girl.

Isn't this a beautiful castle cake!

 4.   Hot BBQ grill with a snow back-drop doesn't seem to go together unless you're a pregnant wife with a super, loving husband!  I was craving some of his special chicken wings; my super hero came to the rescue!

          5.  My sweet girls sporting their cute dresses that their daddy bought.
