Random Question

What is your favorite verse, passage, or chapter in the Bible and why???
~
Mine is Colossians 3:1-4!
I love these verses; I can't get enough of them.
They talk about my past state (old self is dead), present state (raised with Christ; He is my life), future state (I will appear with Christ in glory!) They also give me instruction on how to live in this present state, "seek the things that are above...set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."

My sons used to say my favorite was Psa. 133:1:    "Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!"

But there is one from much further in the past for me. Way back when I was in public high school in the Bible belt, we had devotions in home room every morning. That was usually a perfunctory Bible passage and a short prayer or the Lord's Prayer.

Whenever I volunteered, I read the passage that at some time--I don't remember when--had grabbed my emotions, Rom. 8:38: "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The one that is most dear to my heart and has seen me through many hard times is Psalm 27:13-14 (NAS)

"I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord."

Ephesians 2:1-10 is one favorite of mine for some of the same reasons you love Col. 3:1-4.
I espcially love the declaration of truth in Colossians "Christ, who is our LIFE!" Amen!
Okay, maybe it is not neccesary to copy all of Eph. 2:1-10 here, but since we have the space... but first...
I've only heard the name "Noel" one other time in my life. When I was a North Reno grade school student in KS. A family came to our school to put on a play (Fiddler on the Roof) (I think my memory is correct)and one of the daughter's was named Noel.
Could the commenter named Noel be this one? Just wondering.

Ephesians 2:1-4
"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose." ~Rom 8:28...I heard somewhere that we all come to the Bible with certain thoughts or themes which we carry in our head about God. My thoughts and my eyes are always searching for confirmation of his sovereignty in my life. That is why this particular verse is one of my very favorites.

Caryn, Diane told me that you 2 were friends! How cool is that! I told her that I really want to join in with the 2 of you the next time you plan a get together!

Regarding your comment on my blog post, my kids sure do a good job of reminding me how un-Christ-like I often am! :) But at least they are getting to see someone apologize and ask for forgiveness (me!)-- a LOT! I can't even pretend to be a perfect parent, but I can always ask for forgiveness when I mess up, and they are always more than willing to extend it, just like God is!

Hi Caryn,

I read your blog, but I don't think I've ever commented!

Philippians 1:6:
"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." It is one of my favorites because, despite my up-and-down affections, God is holding me tighter than I can hold onto him, and he will will bring his work to completion.

Philippians 2:5-7 is definitely one of my favorites. In a time where everyone seems so concerned about their rights (including me at times)the reminder that Jesus Christ, God incarnate, made himself nothing really blows me away. My heart is being changed and I'm serving my family more eagerly.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight!!

This verse alone has carried me through dissapointments, death, life, and everyday ups and downs.

This is a great idea, Caryn! I pondered this a while and shortened my list to Romans 5:1-5: "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." I love that these verses cover a range of Christian experiences...from justification to peace, to faith, to hope to God's glory! And then on top of that, we are instructed about how our trials and suffering will, in the end, produce beautiful and God-glorifying fruit! Those are lessons that God constantly uses, hopefully for His glory.
