Quiet Time - Misconception #2

Misconception #2 - You have to follow a set reading plan!
You don't have to follow a reading plan like reading the Bible in one year. It may take you longer so you can soak in and think about what you’re reading. As far as we know, there is not a reward at the Judgment Seat of Christ for the person who read the Bible the most times on earth. But we do know that we will be judged according to all our good & bad deeds (2 Cor. 5:10) and how faithful we were with what God entrusted to us on earth (Matt. 25:14-30). How well are you using your God-given time to invest in your spiritual well-being?

Caryn,
I have found that quiet times are not always "set aside" times. Sometimes it is as we "Practice the Prescence of God" while going about our day (doing dishes, wiping noses, changing diapers, folding laundry, answering questions etc. (Again!)) that we have opportunity to meditate on His word, practice thankfulness or pray... these times are more like snippets, but it is in these snippets that we remember, acknowledge and cling to Christ, our life!! Snippets make up the "big picture"! HOWEVER there is value and discipline in "set-aside" time. No doubt! My point is that there are some days or even "seasons of our lives" that set-aside time or even a few minutes to ourselves is almost never! I am TRYING to encourage you as a young mother with small children! Practice the presence of Christ!

Laurie,
Thanks for that on-time encouraging word!

Caryn,

A very wise pastor of mine in his 80's now shared that in the time of life I am in now, with many children, and little time alone, that it is probably better to meditate on smaller portions of scripture each day verses a read thru the bible program or something. Kind of like what you are saying here. That has really helped me a lot...and made me feel not so guilty that at the moment I am not able to do the amount of actual reading I would like to. But I know it is so important to dig in the Word and I miss how much I was able to do that when I had less children and more time. Thanks for writing about this.
