While I was feeding Christian this morning, Carysse was playing with her dolls. She then said, "Mommy, All my babies have special needs because they can't feed themselves." Kempton & I are open about Christian's disabilities with our "typical" children. Our daughters are privileged to have a brother with special needs which will help them (Lord willing!) to embrace God's good design in disability a lot sooner than if our family was not affected by disability. They are more blessed than they know!

Yes, this will be a huge asset in her (and all your kids') life. I think it is such a good thing when children have an untypical childhood experience b/c it broadens their understanding and keeps it out the the category of "that's weird". (I am also thinking here of growing up with adoptive sibs and many other circumstances).

Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your husband this weekend with the teens at Camp Barakel. My husband and I took our youth group up for the winter retreat, and we were so blessed by the message Kempton humbly brought from God. We have a son who is developmentally delayed, and as of right now, we don't have answers for his condition. We'll be seeing a geneticist soon. Reading your blog has been an encouragement to me! Thanks for sharing your heart and wisdom!

That is so precious! I've recently started reading Just the Way I Am by Krista Horning to the preschoolers in my class. It's so surprising what kids DON"T know about disability. Whatever children God gives me in the future I hope they can understand God's good design in disability at a young age. What a blessing it is for your children to learn through you guys and their sibling.
